I was diagnosed with early stage prostrate cancer and I consulted a number of Urologist in Pakistan and abroad. I came across Dr Irfan Sb in Horizon hospital and consulted him a number of time. It was explained to me in clear terms that there is possibility of urine control loss after removal of prostrate. I was operated in Horizon Hospital in May 2020 and was discharged from hospital within three days. What is endoscopic surgery in urology?
Most surgical procedures in urology are done endoscopically. It means operating through natural urethral opening without any cut or incision.
How is enlarged prostate treated?
Enlarged prostate per se does not require treatment. It is the symptoms and not the size that matters. Most cases are treated medically but some definitely need surgical intervention.
Can biopsy from the prostate spread the cancer?
Biopsy is very important to make the diagnosis and therefore to carry out the definitive treatment afterwards. It doesn’t spread the disease.
How is the kidney cancer diagnosed?
Kidney cancer may be diagnosed by blood in the urine, loin pain or swelling. These days most diagnoses are made on ultrasound examination of the abdomen done for some other reason.
How long is the recovery from endoscopic surgery?
Recovery is fairly quick. Most patients start routine activities on the following day after the surgery. They however, are advised to refrain from heavy work for nearly two weeks.
Is endoscopic surgery painful?
It is usually not painful at all. Most endoscopic procedures are performed under spinal anaesthesia rather than general anaesthesia. Patients can resume their diet within a few hours of surgery.
